Tropical Sunset design easy step-by-step Face Painting Guide
Follow the easy Step-by-step guide below and see our Face Painting Tips at the bottom of the page. Click on each image to enlarge and print the page if required. Alternatively go to...
Step 1 | Apply Snazaroo Sparkle Yellow with a damp sponge to the bottom section of the face as shown. |
|
Step 2 | | With Snazaroo Sparkle Pink on a damp sponge, blend over one eye up to the hair line. Using Snazaroo Sparkle Blue, blend over the other eye up to the hair line then blend into the Sparkle Pink and Sparkle Yellow as shown. |
Step 3 | Work Snazaroo Dark Brown into a large flat brush. Create a small island with a Palm Tree. Press the side of the brush onto the face to create the pattern shown here.
Step 4 | | Fill in the remainder of the detail with a fine round brush loaded with Snazaroo White. Add grass to the island using Snazaroo Bright Green and Dark Green to create a two-tone effect using a fine round brush. |
Step 5 | Using the fine round brush, build up with Snazaroo Black. Hold the brush like a pencil and add branches to your Palm Tree. Add Palm leaves to your four branches using Snazaroo Dark Green on the fine round brush. Highlight the leaves with Snazaroo Pale Green.
Step 6 | | Using Snazaroo Sparkle Orange on a multi purpose brush, create the sunset by painting a semi-circle between the eye brows. Add rays and a zig-zag of Orange down the bridge of the nose. Next, double load your multi-purpose brush (Do this by loading the brush with Snazaroo White paint and add Snazaroo Bright Pink to the tip only). Create simple flowers by touching the tip of the brush against the skin and press down against the face to leave a petal imprint. Repeat this process to create more petals and to produce a flower. Add some leaves using Bright Green on a fine round brush. |
Step 7 | Using Snazaroo Liquid Bright Pink on a fine round brush, add finishing touches by putting dots on and around the flowers. Apply Snazaroo Sparkle Salmon Pink (as shown) or Snazaroo Sparkle Pink to lips to complete your design. |

Painting Tips Before loading your Face Painting sponge with Snazaroo paint, ensure that the sponge is damp but not wet. Build the Snazaroo colour into the sponge to create a rich creamy texture. Never over wet the sponge or you will find you get a streaky uneven finish. When using a thin fine line brush for detail, always build the colour into the brush and upto the tip. This is especially true when applying Black lines and detail to your design. Cut a round face sponge into quarters to create smaller patterns such as spots and triangles. If you are going to try and replicate this design for a number of children and want them all to be as similar as possible, enlist some help and asign each volunteer one face painting stage. Have the children move down the "production line" in turn and voila! - cloned faces for your party or production. This is a great idea for school events, carnivals and large parties.
