Invitations

• Have fun creating your own invitations in the shape of tools, hard hats and Bob the Builder characters. The birthday child will enjoy helping you to do this.
• If time is short, you may prefer our preprinted Bob the Builder party invitations.

Food and Preparation

• You've enough to do on the day so why not prepare the food in advance and serve in handy colour co-coordinated Food Boxes to match your theme. Bob the Builder stickers can be used to decorate your food boxes, get the party boy or girl involved this is a job they'll love to do. If it's hot food you want and on the quick, you can take your pre-prepared food boxes to a local Fish n' Chip shop and have them deliver your order.
• Alternatively create your own construction break-time treats!
  • Construction worker brown bag lunch - Brown paper bag with a sandwich, piece of fruit, bag of crisps and a carton of juice.
  • Build your own sandwiches - Use bread as the foundations and roof. Any fillings can be labelled as bricks, nuts, bolts, wiring, cement etc.
  • Brownie boulders - Chocolate brownies served in a dump truck
  • Bob and Wendy's tea and biscuits
  • Cement - Vanilla milkshakes with a few drops of black food colouring
  • Serve food in toy dump trucks

Décor

• Use yellow caution tape around the party area
• Use construction hats and dump trucks to hold sweets and snacks in
• Create construction signs for outside. Suggestion: "Caution, Party ahead".
• Use tablecloths, napkins, balloons and other decorative items such as streamers in Bob the Builder colours like blue, yellow and black. You can also look for Bob the Builder Plates, Cups and Balloons that carry images of Bob and his friends on them.

Things to do

• On arrival have your guests "punch in" and issue them with yellow vests and construction hats.
• Ask an adult to dress up as Bob the Builder to hand out the party favors at the end. Take a photo of each guest with Bob the Builder and send out with the Thank You notes!

BOB THE BUILDER PARTY GAMES

To keep a party going, it’s always advisable to have a numerous supply of activities planned as the playing time of each game often far exceeds the time spent in planning them.

Keep the children busy - here are 10 of our favourites….

1. Wheelbarrow race

Split the guests into two teams, each standing in a single file. To start the game, the first child in each line gets onto their hands and knees. The second player then holds the first players legs up by the ankles. They then have to run to a designated area and then reverse back again. Once back the first player goes to the back of the line and the second player gets onto his hands and knees and so on. The winning team is the first in which all the children have finished the course.

2. Hammer, Hammer, Nail

Get all the children to sit in a circle. Choose one child to be "it". This child should then walk around the circle tapping the other children on the shoulder or head saying either "Hammer" or "Nail". If the child taps someone and says "Nail" the child that has been tapped must get up and chase the child that is "it". If the child who is "it" gets the whole way round the circle and sits in the other space without being caught, the child who is Nail then becomes "it".

3. Red Light, Green Light

One person is chosen to be the Foreman. They stand at one end of the room or garden facing the wall or fence. All the other players are workers and line up at the other end of the garden. When the Foreman says "Green Light", all the workers need to start moving towards the Foreman. At any time the Foreman can say "Red Light" and turn around. If he catches anyone moving they are out. Play resumes when the Foreman turns back to the wall and says "Green Light". The Foreman wins if all the workers are out before any one touches him. If one of the workers touches the Foreman before being caught then the worker wins.

4. Pass the Construction hat

Get all the children to sit in a circle. Pass a construction hat around the circle to the music. When the music stops whoever is holding the hat is out. The person left at the end is the winner.

5. Pin the tool on Bob

Each player takes it in turns to be blindfolded and is given a "tool" with his/her name on it. With lots of encouragement from the other players the blindfolded player locates Bob and places the "tool" on the picture. Leave all the tools on the picture until everyone has has their turn. The winner is the person who gets closest to the correct place.

6. Follow Bob

Get the children to follow a leader (maybe start with an adult to get the ball rolling). The children have to follow whatever the leader does as they move around. Suggestions: hopping, hands on head, jumping, running, skipping, silly walks, turning round, waving arms, being an animal, being a posh person etc.

7. Bob's missing tools

Hide tools throughout the party area. Explain to the children that Bob the Builder has dropped his tool box and now can't find his tools. He desperately needs their help to find them. Get the children to search for the tools. The child who finds the most gets a prize.

8. Wendy says

An adult or the birthday child is Wendy at first. Wendy faces the rest of the group, who stand where they can see Wendy well. Wendy gives commands for the children to follow such as "Wendy says...Clap your hands" or "Wendy says...Kick your feet". The children are to obey only those commands that begin with the words "Wendy says". If the command does not begin with these words (for example "Jump up and down") the players should ignore it. Anyone who does it is out.

9. Stuck in Cement

The music is started and the kids must dance. When the music stops the kids must stand perfectly still. If any of them move noticeably they go out, as judged by the adult playing the music. If a decision cannot be made, then play another round. Having two or three adults judging is better, and they have to agree on who goes out. If the last two or three kids are identical for three rounds at the end of the game, then they all win. More leeway should be given to the little kids.

10. Beanbag Brick toss

Give the children a few beanbags each. Get them to throw the beanbags into Dump trucks.

• Fill toy dump trucks or construction hats with toys and sweets.
