  • Create your own barnyard treats.
    • Pigs in blankets - Sausage rolls
    • Straw fries (thin cut chips)
    • Baked beans
    • Corn on the cob
    • Baby carrots
    • Sandwiches in the shape of animals (using animal cookie cutters),
    • Brown cows - Chocolate milk
    • Pigs slop - Chocolate pudding with dried fruit/marshmallows/sweets mixed in.

Décor

  • Hang homemade farm animals from the back of each chair. Colour the animals and write each childs name on them so they know which chair is theirs. You can even let each child take their animal home with them.
  • Theme the room using green, pink and blue latex balloons, a Farm birthday banner and for the extra creative host...a hand drawn farmyard scene beautifully coloured in by the birthday boy or girl.
  • Place toy animals and tractors on the table as a centre piece.
  • Use Farm lunch napkins, Tablecovers, Balloons and other decorative items such as Streamers in Farm type colours. You can also look for Farm Party Plates, cups and balloons that carry images of the different animals on them.

Things to do

  • Take individual photos of each party guest and the birthday child sitting on a bail of hay with a farmyard back drop. Include the photos in the thank you notes or if you are using a Polaroid camera put the photos in the party bags!
  • Face Painting - To get everyone in the party mood, face painting is an excellent option. This can be done professionally or alternatively you can purchase a set of face paints. The advantage of getting your own set of face paints is that the children can get involved in the activity, especially if you let them paint each others faces. It can get a bit messy but for a child's party it is an excellent activity.

  • Pinata - If you've got time you can make your own Pinata. It's easy to do - simply layer strips of wet newspaper over a balloon leaving a small hole in the back. Allow to dry and repeat the process several times. Pop the balloon and stuff your Pinata with sweets and toys. Decorate in Farm type colours and hang from a piece of string. Children takes turns to bash the Pinata with a stick whilst blindfolded to release the prizes from within. This is a really fun party game but does take a bit of time and patience and an interest in arts and craft. Alternatively you may prefer to stuff a ready made Pinata.

FARM PARTY GAMES

To keep a party going, it’s always advisable to have a numerous supply of activities planned as the playing time of each game often far exceeds the time spent in planning them.

Keep the children busy - here are 10 of our favourites….

1. Animal Charades
Choose a child to go first. Get them to pick an animal from a selection in a farmer's hat. The child then has to mime out actions for the rest of the guests to guess which animal they are. (Remember they can't make any noises!). Whoever guesses correctly gets to mime the next animal.

2. Duck, Duck, Goose

Get all the children to sit in a circle. Choose one child to be "it". This child should then walk around the circle tapping the other on the shoulder or head saying either "Duck" or "Goose". If the child taps someone and says "Goose", the child that has been tapped must get up and chase the child who is "it". If the child who is "it" gets the whole way round the circle and sits in the other space without being caught, the child who is the Goose then becomes "it".

3. Pin the tail on the Donkey

Each player takes it in turns to be blindfolded and is given a Donkey tail with his / her name on it. With lots of encouragement from the other players, the blindfolded player locates the Donkey and places the tail on the picture. Leave all the tails on the picture until everyone has had their turn. The winner is the person who gets closest to the correct place.

4. Farmers in his Den

One person is "it" and stands in the middle of a circle of children who hold hands. Everyone sings

"The Farmers in his den,

The Farmers in his den,

E I addy oh,

The Farmers in his den."

They sing again using "The Farmer wants a wife". The famer chooses a wife to join him in the centre of the circle. They hold hands and circle round while the others sing "The wife wants a child". The famers wife chooses someone to stand in the centre. The farmer, wife and child hold hands and circle round while the others sing "The child wants a nurse". The child chooses a nurse who joins the inside circle. As before everyone sings "The nurse wants a dog". A dog is chosen by the nurse and joins the others in the centre of the circle. Everyone sings "We all pat the dog" and pats the dog on the head. When the dog has been chosen and the final part of the song has been sung, the dog then becomes the farmer and the game starts again (if you can bare it!)

5. Snorting contests!

Award prizes for the best, loudest, quietest, shortest, longest and silliest snort. This can be done for any animal sound.

6. Carrot Round-up

Hide carrots around the house ensuring one of the carrots is wrapped in silver foil. Give each child a bucket. On your mark they race to find as many carrots as they can before you say "Stop". A prize is awarded to the child with the most carrots but the one wrapped in silver counts for three carrots. (You may decide at your discretion to introduce a secret rule whereby the child who wins has to eat a portion or take a bite of the carrot before they get their prize - this should get the crowd going!!).

7. Hot and Cold Carrots

One child is chosen to leave the room or garden. In their absense all the other guests each hide a carrot. When all the carrots have been hidden, the child comes back in to find them. The only help that can be given is by the guests saying "Hot" if the child is near a carrot or "Cold" if they move away from a carrot.

8. Barn Dance Musical statues

The music is started and the kids must dance. When the music stops the kids must stand perfectly still. If any of them move noticeably they go out, judged by the person playing the music. If you can't decide then just play another round. Having two or three adults watching is better and they have to agree who goes out. If the last two or three kids are identical for 3 rounds at the end of the game then they all win. More leeway should be given to the little ones.

9. Old Macdonald says

An adult or the birthday child is Old Macdonald at first. Old Macdonald faces the rest of the group, who stand where they can see Old Macdonald well. Old Macdonald gives commands for the children to follow such as "Old Macdonald says....Clap your hands" or "Old Macdonald says...kick your feet". The children are to obey only those commands that begin with the words "Old Macdonald says". If the command does not begin with these words (for example "Jump up and down") the players should ignore it. Anyone who does it, is out.

10. Moo-sical Chairs

Arrange the chairs in two lines back to back (make sure you have one chair for each child playing). When the music starts the children must walk around the chairs. When the music stops the children must sit on a chair. Start the music again and get the children to walk around again. Remove one chair. Stop the music and the child left without a chair is out. The game continues by removing one chair each time until just one chair remains. The winner is the child who sits in the last chair.

Prizes - If you want to give away some prizes for your Farm party you should be able to find some theme related Farm bubbles, colour books or Stickers, something that the kids will be able to do while home.

Party Favors

  • Have fun with the birthday child creating birthday favors!
  • Decorate egg boxes and fill with plastic Easter eggs - you can add your own surprises in each egg varying from toys to sweets.
  • Alternatively, use our Farm Party Bags and either fill with your selection of party bag fillers or purchase them readily prefilled.
