To keep a party going, it’s always advisable to have a numerous supply of activities planned as the playing time of each game often far exceeds the time spent in planning them.
Keep the children busy - here are 10 of our favourites….
1. Flower, Flower, Weed
Get all the children to sit in a circle. Choose one child to be "it". This child should then walk around the circle tapping the other children on the shoulder or head saying either "Flower" or "Weed". If the child taps someone and says "Weed" the child that has been tapped must get up and chase the child that is "it". If the child who is "it" gets the whole way round the circle and sits in the other space without being caught, the child who is Weed then becomes "it".
2. Fifi says
An adult or the birthday child is Fifi at first. Fifi faces the rest of the group, who stand where they can see Fifi well. Fifi gives commands for the children to follow such as "Fifi says...Clap your hands" or "Fifi says...Kick your feet". The children are to obey only those commands that begin with the words "Fifi says". If the command does not begin with these words (for example "Jump up and down") the players should ignore it. Anyone who does it is out.
3. Follow Fifi
Get the children to follow a leader (maybe start with an adult to get the ball rolling). The children have to follow whatever the leader does as they move around. Suggestions: hopping, hands on head, jumping, running, skipping, silly walks, turning round, waving arms, being an animal, being a posh person etc.
4. Caterpillar race
Divide your guests into two teams. Line each team up one behind the other at a start line. Get each child to put his or her hands on the waist of the child in front thus forming a "caterpillar". When you say "wiggle", each team must wiggle their way to the finish line. If a team becomes disconnected they must stop and reconnect before continuing. The first team to cross the finish line wins.
5. Pin the petal on the Flower
Each player takes it in turns to be blindfolded and is given a "Petal" with his/her name on it. With lots of encouragement from the other players the blindfolded player locates the flower and places the Petal on the picture. Leave all the Petals on the picture until everyone has has their turn. The winner is the person who gets closest to the correct place.
6. Bee sting
Get all the children to sit in a circle. Pass a toy Bee around the circle to the music. When the music stops whoever is holding the Bee is out. The person left at the end is the winner.
7. Musical garden statues
The music is started and the kids must dance. When the music stops the kids must stand perfectly still. If any of them move noticeably they go out, judged by the person playing the music. If you can't decide then just play another round. Having two or three adults watching is better and they have to agree who goes out. If the last two or three kids are identical for 3 rounds at the end of the game then they all win. More leeway should be given to the little ones.
8. Pass the watering can
For this game you will need two watering cans. Put the children into two equal lines side by side and give the child at the front the watering can. On your mark, the child at the front needs to pass the watering can over his head to the next child who then passes it between his legs to the person behind who passes it over his head and so on. This continues until it gets to the person at the end of the line, who then races to the front and starts the process again. When all of the children in the line have had a turn of being at the front of the line, the entire team sits down. The first team to sit wins. For extra fun especially for older kids you may decide to fill the cans with water and award an extra prize for the team with the most amount of water left in their can at the end.
9. Fifi's flower toss
Have several garden items like buckets, flower pots and watering cans. Get the children to try and throw bean bags into the items from a stationery point (the same place for each child although leeway maybe given to smaller kids). Award different prizes for different targets and/or throwing distances.
10. Ladybug & Caterpillar hunt
Hide plastic caterpillars and ladybugs throughout the party area. Get the children to search for the bugs. The child who finds the most bugs gets a prize.
Prizes - If you want to give away some prizes for your Fifi & the Flowertots party you should be able to find some theme related Fifi and the Flowertots tiaras, colour books or bubbles, something that the kids will be able to do while home.
