POSTMAN PAT PARTY TIPS

Invitations

  • Use blank postcards. Write all of the details on one side and on the other decorate with Postman Pat stickers or get the birthday child to draw Postman Pat characters.
  • Alternatively, if time is short, you may prefer our preprinted Postman Pat party invitations.

Food and Preparation

  • You've enough to do on the day so why not prepare the food in advance and serve in handy colour co-coordinated Food Boxes to match your theme. Postman Pat stickers can be used to decorate your food boxes, get the party boy or girl involved this is a job they'll love to do. If it's hot food you want and on the quick, you can take your pre-prepared food boxes to a local Fish n' Chip shop and have them deliver your order.
  • Alternatively create your own mailman treats!
    • Stamp sandwiches - Use a square pastry cutter with crinkled edges to create a stamp shaped sandwich
    • Mail van sandwiches - Use a van shaped pastry cutter
    • Cupcakes with cats on
    • Jess Cookies - Cookies in the shape of a cat with black and white icing

Décor

  • Create a large postbox from a tall box and put it outside your house. Attach balloons to it for that all important finishing touch.
  • Use tablecloths, napkins, balloons and other decorative items such as streamers in Postman Pat colours like red, blue and yellow. You can also look for Postman Pat Plates, Cups and Balloons that carry images of Postman Pat on them.

Things to do

  • Give each child a blank postcard and get them to decorate for the birthday child to keep. Consider making a postbox out of cardboard. Once the postcards have been decorated and addressed to the birthday child, they can be posted into the postbox.
  • Ask an adult to dress up as Postman Pat to hand out the party favors at the end. Take a photo of each guest with Postman Pat and send out with the Thank You notes.

  • Pinata - If you've got time you can make your own Pinata. It's easy to do - simply layer strips of wet newspaper over a balloon leaving a small hole in the back. Allow to dry and repeat the process several times. Pop the balloon and stuff your Pinata with sweets and toys. Decorate in Postman Pat Party colours and hang from a piece of string. Children takes turns to bash the Pinata with a stick whilst blindfolded to release the prizes from within. This is a really fun party game but does take a bit of time and patience and an interest in arts and craft. Alternatively you may prefer to stuff a ready made Plain Pull String Pinata and simply add a Postman Pat foil Balloon attachment. Pull String Pinatas are particularly ideal for younger children in your party.

POSTMAN PAT PARTY GAMES

To keep a party going, it’s always advisable to have a numerous supply of activities planned as the playing time of each game often far exceeds the time spent in planning them.

Keep the children busy - here are 10 of our favourites….

1. Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Jess the Cat

Get all the children to sit in a circle. Choose one child to be "it". This child should then walk around the circle tapping the other children on the shoulder or head saying either "Postman Pat" or "Jess the Cat". If the child taps someone and says "Jess the Cat" the child that has been tapped must get up and chase the child that is "it". If the child who is "it" gets the whole way round the circle and sits in the other space without being caught, the child who is Jess the Cat then becomes "it".

2. Pass the Parcel

Start with a present wrapped in successive layers of paper with small prizes in between. Sit all the children in a circle and enlist one adult to be responsible for fair play! And another to control the music. Hand the fully wrapped parcel to the birthday child. When the music starts the parcel is passed around the circle from child to child. At random intervals pause the music. When the music stops the child holding the present unwraps one layer as fast as possible. The child that reaches the prize in the iddle wins. (Remember the person controlling the music can peek to ensure everyone has a go at unwrapping).

3. Pin the nose on Jess

Each player takes it in turns to be blindfolded and is given a "nose" with his/her name on it. With lots of encouragement from the other players the blindfolded player locates Jess and places the "nose" on the picture. Leave all the noses on the picture until everyone has has their turn. The winner is the person who gets closest to the correct place.

4. Postman Pats mail march

Get the children to follow a leader (maybe start with an adult to get the ball rolling). The children have to follow whatever the leader does as they move around. Suggestions: hopping, hands on head, jumping, running, skipping, silly walks, turning round, waving arms, being an animal, being a posh person etc.

5. Letter Drop

Get all the children to sit in a circle. Pass a small letter around the circle to the music. When the music stops whoever is holding the letter is out. The person left at the end is the winner.

6. What's in the mailbag

Place some party prizes into a mailbag making sure there are more prizes than children. Get all the children to sit in a circle. Pass the mailbag round the circle while playing music. When the music stops, the child holding the mailbag has to put his hand in and guess one of the objects in the bag. If they guess correctly they can keep that prize.

7. Postman Pats wall of prizes

Write an even spread of numbers 1, 2 & 3 on the back of a selection of envelopes, letters and postcards in different sizes. Stick them to a wall. Let the children takes turns in choosing from the wall. If they find a number 1, they receive a small prize. Revealing number 2 wins a medium prize whilst finding number 3 wins a big prize.

8. Mailbag rush

Split the children into two teams. Have two large bags of mail and get the teams to race to sort the mail. They can sort by anything, address, type of mail, name or number. The first team to finish with correctly sorted items wins. For younger children you may allow for example 3 mistakes per team.

9. Postman Pats missing mail

Hide pieces of mail throughout the party area. Explain to the children that Postman Pat has dropped his mailbag and all the letters blew away. He desperately needs their help to find them. Get the children to search for the mail. The child who finds the most gets a prize.

10. Postman Pat says

An adult or the birthday child is Postman Pat at first. Postman Pat faces the rest of the group, who stand where they can see Postman Pat well. Postman Pat gives commands for the children to follow such as "Postman Pat says...Clap your hands" or "Postman Pat says...Kick your feet". The children are to obey only those commands that begin with the words "Postman Pat says". If the command does not begin with these words (for example "Jump up and down") the players should ignore it. Anyone who does it is out.

Prizes - If you want to give away some prizes for your Postman Pat birthday party you should be able to find some Postman Pat related colour books, bubbles or Stickers, something that the kids will be able to do while home.

Party Favours

  • Before the party fill small boxes with goodies. Close the boxes and wrap with brown paper. Use string to tie each box up so each child will have their own parcel to take home.
  • Alternatively, use our Postman Pat Party Bags and either fill with your selection of party bag fillers or purchase them readily pre-filled.
