There is no such thing as an average cost for a children's party! The cost for a party is what it is; you control it, not the other way around. Everything you do for a party costs money, the venue, the entertainment, the refreshments all add to the eventual cost. The thing to think about before you start planning a party is what does your child needs to be happy. If you have raised your children to need more than their friends get, I feel sorry for you. The Japanese have themselves in a huge bind by trying to save face and keep up with the Joneses when they throw a wedding. Some families have put themselves in hoc for the rest of their lives by trying to outdo the neighbours. I remember a conversation my daughter had with a friend just after Christmas when they were about ten years old, they were comparing the number of gifts they had received.
They couldn't remember what the gifts were; just that one had more packages to open than the other. I won't go into details but that was the end of that. Here is the thing; a children's party should be a fun thing that shows that you love them; it shouldn't be a statement to the neighbourhood. I would suggest that if you live in a neighbourhood that plays the "I can spend more than you can" game, move! You don't need to be there and your kids certainly don't. A children’s party should be fun for the kids, and they don't care how much it costs, if they are having fun with their friends, you have created a successful party regardless how much money went into it. If any other motive is involved, for having the party, you deserve what you get when your kids get older.
