Cosplay is quite literally a merge of the words, costume and play, with the theme centred around Japanese culture. cosplay.co.uk describe it as "Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, Japanese movies, or Japanese pop music bands." There are some incredible Anime's, or Japanese animation, out there. There are hundreds upon hundreds of characters to dress as, and most are very cartoonish, giving you opportunities for face paints and wild hair styles. The best thing is that there is such a variety of characters and story lines out there that you could literally have a party every day of the week for an entire year and not exhaust all of the options. Part of the party activities can be to do the makeup of some of your less Anime savvy friends, which is a blast for both you and them. Party guests of all ages can enjoy becoming their favourite characters and kids will love the face paints, even if they don't know who they are supposed to be.   Make sure to get a good stock of Manga's, which are Japanese comics, or Anime's, the TV shows made from the manga's, so that you can look through them and watch them as part of the fun. Since most Anime's contain some form of martial arts, it would be a good idea to have younger guests let their copy-cat acts out on a party themed pinata instead of on each other. Make sure also, especially if you are going to have younger kids that are not family, that you screen the Anime that you chose for age appropriate material and let the parents know what sort of activities there will be. Like superhero's, a lot of Anime characters are very active and you may end up with a room full of rowdy kids if you're not careful.   Japanese foods are almost as varied as the characters that you can chose from. Make sure to stock up with plenty of party supplies like plates and cups and decorations in bright vibrant colours to highlight the many different dishes. It would also be a good idea to have some more traditional foods on hand, since some kids can be very picky about what they will and won't eat. You may find that Japanese food may just be pushing the boundaries a tad, but what a great opportunity for your kids to try out new foods. Bring a little Cosplay and Anime to your party and you'll have an event on your hands that will go down a storm - talk about new and exciting parties - for me this has got to be it!
