Just east of London at South Woodham Ferrers is Marsh Farm, a year round working farm in the English countryside. Everything that traditionally a working farm does is done at Marsh Farm but with the notable exception that visitors are encouraged, and for the most part can participate in the activities.
During the Summer Holidays a visit to Marsh Farm is a completely enjoyable experience for the entire family or for a larger group. Many guest facilities are available and depending on the time of year, activities such as sheep shearing, lambing, and calving can be observed. Piglets are born all year round and in the case of the sheep and cattle, breeding at Marsh Farm is controlled so that there are calves and lambs, for the kids to play with, all year round. Children can play safely in one of the play areas while you enjoy tea in the Farmhouse Tea Room, then how about a walk down the farm trail where the kids can feed and pet the new arrivals.
Take along a hamper loaded with the usual suspects like picnic tableware sandwiches and drinks. Don't leave any of your used party supplies behind though, not just because of the country code thing which goes without saying but goats, they have a fantastic hoover like action don't you know! If you get tired of walking for a bit there are tractor and trailer rides available for a couple of quid that will take you through the farm fields and salt marshes and on to the river bank of the river Crouch.
Play areas, both indoors and out, will keep the kids happy for hours as will the pony rides, on weekends and bank holidays. For something a little out of the ordinary, spending some time during your summer holiday at Marsh Farm is hard to beat, it's good fun and something most of the kids nowadays don’t have a chance to see, let alone experience.
