Congratulations. Do you realise that, with all the commotion and activity going on between Christmas on the 25th of December, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Orthodox Christmas on January 7th, that you may have accidentally missed out on perhaps the most important and secular holiday of the year? I am talking, of course, about the birthday of The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.
That's right. January 8th was Elvis's birthday. It is a holiday celebrated around the world, with the largest festivities held at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis's birthplace, also hosts a party to celebrate the birth of this great man.
However, we should not rely on Memphis and Tupelo. We too should host our own parties in honour of The King. History and science have taught us much about this man, and we should use that information to do him the proper homage. You should decorate for your party in a 50’s theme. Most proper representations of Elvis are of him in his younger days. The mid-seventies Elvis is not quite as visually appealing. You can add a life sized cutout of The King, so your guests can truly experience his presence. For food, peanut butter and banana sandwiches are an obvious choice. This culinary delight is, like The King himself, not as simple as it sounds. It's a grilled peanut butter sandwich, stuffed with bananas and honey. For some extra flavour, offer these sandwiches with bacon-another Elvis favourite. Scientific research tells us that Elvis also enjoyed hot dogs with sauerkraut, and barbecue pizza.
You can ask your guests to come dressed as Elvis. Just keep those sideburns away from open flames. Of course, you may have to plan ahead for parking all of those pink Cadillacs. Elvis has touched our lives in so many ways. Don't let him down next year. Start planning your Elvis Party today.
