We are getting bored with football and princess parties, and need to find some theme that both my eight year old son and my five year old daughter can live with. My daughter suggested a party based on one of their favourite television characters. I could not believe that she actually wanted to have a Spongebob party.
I have trouble understanding why they watch that show in the first place, but nonetheless both kids like it and both kids loved the party idea. First we talked about what you would actually do at a Spongebob party. They thought that making crabby patties would be a lot of fun. They also thought that the party guests could take turns at acting out their favourite Spongebob scenes, sort of a Spongebob party with improv. We would pick a scene that the kids knew, then draw lots to see which kid got to play the part of Spongebob, Patrick, or any other characters the scene required. We also talked briefly about some kind of race based on Spongebob's pet snail. These details still need to be worked out. Finally the subject changed to decorations. We all agreed that a Spongebob cake was absolutely mandatory. We had mixed thoughts on the balloons. One vote was for a Spongebob balloon, one vote was for a Patrick balloon. I'm sure if there was a Squidward option he would get a vote too. The kids decided that they would love to make some of their own decorations. They plotted out how they could make pineapples and seascapes to hang on the walls. They figured they could turn the whole house into Bikini Bottom. I still do not understand the attraction, but I guess I don't have to. It's for the kids, right?
