An engagement party is a wonderful way to kick-off the celebration of the union of two people. It is an event that, unlike the bridal shower, bachelor party, and bachelorette party, can be attended by both the bride and groom; many of their friends, acquaintances and co-workers, and of course their families. It is an opportunity for those friends of the groom who don't know the bride, and for those friends and co-workers of the bride who don't know the groom, to be able to get to know each other. The families of the bride and groom can mingle and also get to know each other better. As with any party, disposable but attractive products are great items to have. Engagement parties are less formal than wedding parties, so disposable plastic tableware is entirely appropriate. Plastic wine glasses and champagne flutes are entirely appropriate, as toasts at engagement parties, just like at wedding receptions, are traditional. Consider the number of people likely to attend an engagement party, and plan food accordingly. Again, as a less formal event, buffets are a great way to go. You can get disposable silver foil platters, coloured or clear plastic plates and drinking glasses, and silver or clear plastic cutlery. Do any of your party invitees smoke? Disposable foil ash trays are nice to have outside for these guests if you have the use of a garden. As with the wedding reception, a cake at an engagement party is something that thought and consideration should be put into. It is a good idea to pick a flavour of cake and frosting that the majority of your guests will like. However, it is also just as important that you, as the host, like the cake too! Just remember that you will always want to look back on your engagement party as a beautiful part of your wedding process.
