One thing most bridesmaids quickly forget is that throwing a celebratory party for their newly married friend's first anniversary usually falls under their job description. Yep, not only do you have to buy your dress, host a hen party (admit it, you enjoyed this one!), and deal with a nervous anal bride, you are responsible for making sure the couple have an excellent ‘paper’ anniversary too.
Traditionally, the first anniversary is known as the paper anniversary because a young couple is still starting out on their own and could use paper (money) more than anything else. However, the extra perk of hosting the paper anniversary, is that your decorative theme will be much easier than any other you will have ever attempted in the past, and probably will in the future!
So as to avoid being too obvious, you might consider a newsprint theme for the party, making sure to purchase newsprint plastic cups and plates. Of course the tablecloths will be very easy to create, as last week's edition of the Times should work out to be quite fitting and appropriate! From there, the rest of the party is totally up to your discretion. You might consider hosting a dinner party serving a menu similar to their wedding menu, or you may have a buffet and simply throw chaos to the wind! If you really want to get cheesy, you might even consider hosting the party at the Paper Club in Soho, or at least making a trip down there for cocktails after the party ends.
